Norbain shortlisted for industry awards

Reading, UK
Having won The Co-Operative’s Big Idea initiative, Norbain’s ‘Project Switch’ has now been shortlisted under ‘Environmental Initiative of the Year’ for the prestigious Security Excellence Awards.
Now in their twelfth year, the Security Excellence Awards have consistently broken new ground in highlighting the very best people, projects and processes the UK security industry has to offer.
The event is designed to recognise and celebrate the magnificent achievements of their peers in the security management, installation, consultancy or manufacturing sub-sectors.
Norbain’s entry, Project Switch, was designed to provide The Co-Operative with a way of reducing its CO2 footprint whilst also enhancing the safety of employees throughout the company.
With an estimated 50,000 ‘bulb-based’ external lights across the estate, Gary Harmer, Norbain’s divisional director of sales - strategic accounts, immediately saw the potential for significant cost and environmental savings for The Co-operative.
The plan was simple: replace all existing external bulb based lighting units with their far more efficient and longer-life LED counterparts. By this alone, it is predicted that The Co-Operative would effectively double the amount of CO2 savings they currently make across a number of other initiatives.
But Project Switch doesn’t simply allow for CO2 savings to me made over a single year, it continues to do so year on year. In the next five years, CO2 savings with this one retailer alone are predicted to reach 203,425 tonnes.
In addition to the benefits The Co-operative will enjoy, Norbain has begun an on-going educational programme to inform consultants and specifiers in the retail industry of the environmental benefits of LED lighting. By actively promoting the technology and providing relevant workshops and information, Norbain is increasing awareness of the myriad of benefits that can simply and easily be achieved in a short amount of time.
